Quotes from playing the Littlest Pet Shop game with K. The game uses little skill, mostly you are at the mercy of the spinner. (For those not in the know, Littlest Pet Shop are tiny plastic animals with bobble heads and too-big eyes. They are cute and we manage to lose them often which generally results in tears. Eva gave them to us for the birthdays. She loves them. Now my girls do too.)
K had two tokens and I had none.
K: Mom, do you have any tokens?
Me: No.
K: That's sad.
K: I'm really good at this game.
Pause
K: Sometimes I lose.
K's animal for the game was a little chihuahua. I was a yellow pig.
K: What sound does the chihuahua make?
M: (guessing and using a high-pitched voice) arp, arp, arp, arp, arp.
K: Ohh. Is that annoying?

I'm so glad to see you writing. I had checked your blog back in January and just now stole a moment to go back and I am sad that I don't have a long enough moment to read all the posts. I loved the one in the winter about how all the little things for kids make it so much harder. I was feeling that all winter. I used to love the snow and never understood why mom made it seem like such a big deal to get all four of us out to play in it. Time goes so much faster as an adult and the tiny amount of play for all the prep just has a hard time feeling worth it. But the play times when I was a kid seemed like an eternity so I guess that's what makes it worth it. Anyway, the point is, I love your musings, I look forward to catching up on them, and I'm aching (and have been for a long time) to catch up with you when I finish my papers and finals at the end of the month.
