I almost checked my blood sugar four times this week. I procrastinated and procrastinated until this weekend, knowing that I had to post. For your info, most people maintain a blood sugar level between 90-110mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter), except for the first hour or so after a meal. Here are the current guidelines for a diabetic according to Mayo, come to think of it, my doctor here has never communicated her target blood sugar levels for me. Apparently, quite a few people check their levels right before bed too...the doctor has never said anything about this either. I probably need a new doctor.
For a diabetic
Fasting/before breakfast between 80 and 120 mg/dL
Two hours after a meal under 160 mg/dL
The standard targets vary from doctor to doctor and from organization to organization.
I decided to nix posting on the side bar. I never checked after lunch this week. Here you go.
For week beginning 11/17
Fasting 126
After breakfast 58
After dinner 145
About 6 months ago they put me on a new medicine that can cause sugar lows, which I have never had. The 58 is quite low and would account for why I often feel nauseous, exhausted and like I might faint about mid-morning. So armed with a bit more knowledge I can experiment this week with consuming more carbs at breakfast or snacking in the morning or both.

Great job! Thanks for posting.
Way to stay on top of it and you're right that finding a doctor that gives you clear parameters is definitely in your best interest.
I had a dietician set my daily calorie aim for 1500-1800 calories per day, since I burn between 150 and 300 calories at the gym most days out of the week. The funny part is that she told me if I plateaued, I'd need to eat more and exercise at a higher intensity to rev up my metabolism
But M-F, you'll find I'm pretty good at sticking to the goal numbers... but the moment MacTroll comes home I'm off to celebrate with food. It's a big struggle since he's gone so often not to be happy and splurge when he is home. But I've gotten him to go with me to the gym rather than out to breakfast after we drop X-man off at preschool, so he's there with me every morning for at least 45 minutes. Which is definitely a start...
Keep it up! I was waiting for this! And test more often during the week!! (I know, easy for me to say.) My brother tests quite a few times every day and it really helps him figure out how foods affect him and what to eat when. And yes, a new dr might be good!
so does that mean you'll post on wed and monday?? it will keep you from procrastinating. Are you keeping a food journal? A stress/thankful journal? My mother in law says that stress even if she is not faced with something terrible affects her blood.
Good job!! I'll keep checking on you!!!
I've been waiting Laura. Keep it up and more knowledge is more power. Have a great weekend, even though you are going on a fast trip. By the way, I'm still expecting your numbers next Monday, vacation or not. Get to it sister.
