K and I walked H to the bus this morning. It was a brisk, pleasant morning. The bus came; we started to walk home. Then I realized I still was holding H's backpack. I could imagine her panic when she realized she was missing her homework, gym shoes, and lunch. I started trying to calculate my morning and how on earth I could fit in the 20 -minute round trip drive. The bus driver must have heard H's real scream of panic, because when I turned around I saw the bus slowly backing down the street. I ordered K back to the sidewalk and ran the five houses to the bus. There was Hadley, at the top of the stairs, smiling, relieved.
"You're a great bus driver," I told Mrs. C. "And I am a silly mommy." I think the whole bus laughed, at least the whole front of the bus which is the K-2nd graders.
Many thanks to my cheesecake-making namesake for the use of her computer the past two days.

Wow - what a great bus driver. It's the little things that make the difference.
Missed you at MOPS today. I even brought the breadmaker for you. I'll try to remember next time. Oatmeal was yummy.
